My first birthday in graduation

It was the T20 Season. The TV rooms in the hostel were almost full for all the matches. Sometimes, it’s even more than that. One night, we just came from dinner. On that day Reddy had his dinner little early and was sitting in the TV room. Santosh and I entered the room. Just after a minute, reddy said a sentence and we couldn’t understand anything. The line is like, “Dhoni gadu, masthu charlu kodthundu bey…” We just saw each other and asked him to repeat it. He said, “charlu bey, charlu” with an action. Then we understood that he was saying that, “Dhoni is hitting boundaries.” Immediately, santosh said, “endhi ra bhai, Dhoni gadu chelu kodthundu??” Reddy understood that he is teasing. So, he started hunting santosh. From that day onwards, we use to tease him with that line and reddy use to be angry when we tease his language but we never stopped having fun of him. It was during that time, the “Happy Days” got released and I remember, chaithanya telling pawan anna that the film was released in WoodLands theatre and pawan anna went there, which is very distant from the college. The next day, pawan anna came saying, “nannu, chesadu ra… chaithanya gadu nannu pichi peon ni chesadra…” hahaha!!

We use to meet Susvith very regularly. It’s October 2nd, the birthday of the Father of the Nation. But for us it is the birthday of Susvith, which we came to know through the social networking site, Orkut. We made a cake cutting. Reddy kept susviths face in the cake.
For the past few days, Palakollu became close to all four of us. He became a famous among seniors, with his answers and smiling face. As the count of the no.of days in the college got raised, the bond of friendship started binding us. It was in those days, we started rejoicing our lives in hostel. We got close to the 3rd years too. As per the college, 3rd years were ready for the Kerala tour. Pawan annas birthday is on 11th October. But the seniors were leaving on 9th. So, they did the cake cutting on 8th along with pradeep anna.
My birthday is on 11th. So, I was planning for that. The clock was about to struck 11.50pm on 10th. Reddy, Santosh, Vamsi, Palakollu came to the room and asked me to come. I followed them. They took me to the 6th floor. The whole floor was vacant in those days. I was surprised to see two packs of cakes. Then they bought pawan anna and asked both of us to cut the cakes. We were shocked. It was the first time that fresher’s celebrating a senior’s birthday. This clearly shows the bond between us. I expected them to bang me the next minute of cutting the cake. I was pretty happy that they didn’t do it. We almost finished eating the cake and rubbing it on the faces too. We were about to leave. I was front. Suddenly, something had hit me very hardly. I turned back. It was a tomato that was thrown by palakollu. The next second I saw reddy throwing an egg. I started running. The worst part is that they did before me. Oh my god!! Its more than a dozen of tomatoes and egg that had hit me. Then even I started to hit them back with the pieces that had felled behind me. We played a lot for more than half an hour. Then they started giving me bumps. 17 times I landed safely in their hands but the last one was terrible.
We then went to the 3rd floor with our clothes horribly smelling and full of stains. I went to have my bath. Then they started pouring water on me. I too started doing the same. Finally we got tired and then I am in the bathroom to have my shower. I am done. It took a long time to manage myself with a better odour. I was refreshed with the bath. I was going to the room. Suddenly an egg was crushed between my head and reddy’s palm. I am shocked. Oh my god!! I must have my shower once again. All my freshness was past. Shit!! I am helpless and had my bath for the second time in the last 30 minutes. My back was full of stressed marks. It was a terrible feeling when I tried to lye down. My back was hammered with eggs and tomatoes. They taught me that the birthday in the life of graduation is a hammering day. Anyways, I enjoyed with my friends and it was a cool day in the class.

Formation of the Troop

Reddy started sitting in the same bench where I, Santosh use to sit. If some other guy sits in that place, he argued with him. Soon he became a very close friend of us. The situation is that, we were never parted. That arrogant stupid guy became a necessary for our lives. His friendliness with almost all the people and his attitude to make keep telugu guys at top made him the Class Representative (CR). We were the special and united tri men army in ECE-A. ECE-B had the other guys, named VamsiKrishna alias Vamsi, Vamshidhar alias Shorty, ManiKumar, Sudhir alias Palakollu and Sahas.

Being fresher’s, we are very cautions and had an escaping mentality. But Reddy turned it to courage. He was very well prepared to face any situation and more planned to take the situation under control. Using the CR as a reason, we three of us bunked at least 2 classes a day for which we got the attendance.

The other section guys were slowly becoming good friends of us. It’s Vamsi who really surprised us by giving chocolates on his birthday. The immediate shock was it’s the birthday of Vamshidhar too. Wow it’s something special to have two friends of same name, born on same date and more specially, same year .i.e. 06.09.1989 and was roommates. The tri men army was changed to four men army, in which Vamsi was added. I am pretty sure that he is the most funniest and humorous guy in the batch. I assure you that he makes you fools either with your knowledge or not. It seemed to be tough to manage having two of the friends with the same name. So, we started calling Vamshidhar as Shorty because of his height. This guy seemed to be quite and relaxed all the time. I don’t know how many are dare enough to bet with friends to pull the chain of a girl sitting in your front bench and comment her in a nonstop way.  The main booster to that guy is that, she is from madras and he use to comment in telugu. We all enjoyed when Shorty, Vamsi told us about his jokes on her. The disaster is that, she knew telugu very well and he doesn’t know that she knew it. That luckiest fellow is ManiKumar. Sahas use to talk as if his village kamalapuram, of kadapa district is greater than or equal to Silicon Valley. He played some occasional rotten jokes and was in his own world. In this way, we started our life in the ECE dept.

Parallel to us, Prathik, Chaithanya alias Potti, Susvith alias Pitta, Pruthvi, and Chaithanya alias Podugodu also started their lives in CSE dept. We had a good contact with Susvith but yet the bond of friendship is not started. Still we are from the same region, so we maintained unity to some extent at least in the ragging sessions.

Room no. 308 became our adda. At any time, you can find minimum of 4 ECE guys in the room. The luckiest part is that, Saran who is another roommate of me and Santosh will never be in the room. Even seniors started ragging students in our room. Somehow, now we are popular both at the hostel and college. It may be rivalry with the 2nd year tamil guys or may be due to the friendship with our telugu super seniors.

First week of the college

My father returned to my home town on 21st. I was in my best friend AjayKrishna alias Gajjiga's house. I have my first day of the college on 23rd August, 2007. Finally I am done with my shopping in Spencer Plaza and arrived at the room no. 308 of our hostel by 22nd noon.

It was in the morning of 23rd that I had seen Santosh’s family in my room. His grandmother was crying to leave him. I tried to console her. I was pretty happy that my roommate was from Rajamundry, AP. I may not have been comfortable with some other person on my first day of graduation.

We then went to the Auditorium for the Inaugural function. We felt disgusting that speech was in tamil. Thank god, we took almost the last row. Off course, that was my favourite place in any session. I don’t really remember anything of that occasion because we were very busy in talking about our own lives. The last 30 min was discussion about some unknown guy wearing a black shirt and sitting about 3 rows ahead of us. One of the senior who was volunteering the occasion, came to us and asked, “Do you know the name of that guy??” pointing towards him. We came to know that he messed up with seniors on the first day of the college.  We decided not to talk to such guys and must avoid this guy in particular. After the function when we were leaving, we saw that guy was being ragged up. Felt pity on him and moreover escaped the situation.

On the next day we had our first class. Almost in the recess, that black shirt guy came to me and santosh. He introduced himself as Narsa Reddy, Hyderabad. Hahaha!!! We maintained our smiling faces with a great difficulty. As we decided previously, we must be far from him… so we did. The very same day, I went to my home town, Nellore for the weekend.

I returned on 26th, i.e. on Sunday. When I was back, I was shocked to see Reddy in my room. They told me that the seniors of room no. 304 have asked me to meet immediately. I went to their room. They are about 7 guys namely Siva, Pradeep, Pawan, Rajesh, Rajesh Chowdary, Bhawadeep. They gave me two options i.e. either to give the intro fully in Telugu or fully in English. I preferred English.  I told all my details along with my home town Nellore. Then suddenly, they took me close and started talking friendly because most of my seniors are from Nellore.  Then one bro named RajaSekhar entered the room. He seemed to be very serious. All others asked me to salute to him. I did the SRM salute to him. He was very close to me. So, it looked very awkward. All of them started laughing with my jokes and Pawan anna rolled on the floor. Then he vomited. I understood that they were drunk and RajaSekhar anna was very funny. Finally I was very happy that they were friendly and said that we are like their brothers. They insisted that we won’t be ragged by any other state seniors and Telugu guys must maintain the unity.

We were about to sleep, then I asked Santosh, “How did seniors come to know about me???” he replied, Reddy told them. I just wanted to kick that asshole, who is sleeping in his room .i.e. 313. But I didn’t dare to mess up with him in the very 1st week of the college. Then we discussed about the ragging done to us. They included Shakeela Table, Songs, Dance, delivering film Dialogues, Sita-Geeta, many SRM salutes till we obtained perfection, etc... To talk about SRM salute, it is similar to that of the salute in the “Happy Days” movie but still worser. The twist is that, the movie was released later. The SRM salute was in practice for more than 6 years in my college.

Finally, the first week of the college was cool, enthusiastic, and little bit fearful.
